Workshop Diverse Nordic Dancers

Now we´re leaving January behind us, a month with a lot of startups for Spinn. Among other things, Spinn’s guest dancer Felicia Sparrström shared her experiences from the project Diverse Nordic Dancers. A project she participated in during the fall of 2022. It was a half-day filled with wheelchair dancing, acrobatics, and reflection.

Diverse Nordic Dancers was a project where dancers with and without disabilities worked together with choreographer Marc Brew. Together they created a new dance performance for CODA festival 2022. The performance Un-be-known premiered at the CODA festival in Oslo on October 14, 2022.

Diverse Nordic Dancers is a Nordic collaboration project with Den Norske Opera & Ballett and CODA Oslo International Dance Festival.

You are welcome. Into a world that’s almost private, but one that we share together. Where the love between two people tells a story of rivalry, tenderness, fellowship and sensuality. About an invisible line between liking and desiring.

Hannah Felicia is about sisterhood and the relationship between two people. Or are we perhaps merely seeing two sides of the same person? That longs to be seen, accepted and loved.

Introduction of recorded audio description starts 15 min before the performance.

The performance is always presented with recorded audio description. Available languages are Swedish and English. Read more about how the recorded audio description works here!

Vågade Vågor in Kungälv!

Next week it is again time to visit Kungälv with the workshop Vågade Vågor. Last fall we visited Sandbackaskolan and now we have the joy of meeting the students again! Spinn holds the workshop during week 4-6.

Vågade Vågor is about exploring movement and dance with inspiration from water, animals and plants. In the workshop we create sounds together with rubbish and build shapes with our bodies. Using each student’s own prerequisites, we create a safe environment where everyone dares to wave in their own way.

Autumn 2022

Already the third Advent with the fourth coming up and we can look back on an eventful autumn to say the least! Spring looks very promising with exciting projects, premieres and other news but more on that after Christmas.

Workshops and projects
During the year, Spinn’s dancer Felicia Sparrström participated in the project Diverse Nordic Dancers. The work resulted in the performance un-be-known which premiered at the CODA festival in Oslo on October 14.

There have been a lot of workshops. Among other things Vågade Vågor in Lerum and Kungälv, Klot & klimat (Globe & Climate) during Göteborgs kulturfestival and Lika Värde at Kungsbacka library. Autumn’s new workshop Dansa en bok has been around at several preschools in Gothenburg. Last week, a workshop was held for Spinn’s dancers with the choreographer and the pedagogue Hannaleena Markkanen from Finland.

For five days at the end of November, Spinn’s dancers Emilia Wärff and Annika Vestel participated in a dance congress in Bremen organized by tanzbar_bremen. The picture below is from the congress.

Tour and guest performances
The family performance Miramos by Torgunn Wold visited in August the supply day Markedet for Scenekunst (MFS) in Sandefjord, Norway. There were also performances through KUBO for preschools and schools at Frölunda Kulturhus, Vingen Kulturhus and Folkets hus in Hammarkullen!

The duet Hannah Felicia by Lára Stefánsdóttir has had both a Gothenburg premiere and an Icelandic premiere! On October 29, two performances were shown at Folketatern in Gothenburg and later in November the team went on a two-week tour to Akureyri, Reykjavík and Ísafjörður. In the beginning of September, an excerpt from Hannah Felicia was shown at the Swedish Pavilion during Tanzmesse. On October 20, the performance was played in its entirety at Berns salonger in Stockholm as a secret act during an event arranged by Misa/WiljaGruppen.

The new solo performance Denna sida opp has developed during the year and had a preview/work in process at Kulturhuset in Bergsjön. The excerpt was shown during the Antidiskrimineringsbyrån Väst’s 10-year anniversary on 19 November. The show premieres this spring and we are so looking forward to it!

Spinn at a dance congress in Bremen

And then the snow came to Gothenburg. We are now already in December and November swished by at a furious pace. It has been busy for Spinn lately with trips, performances and workshops. Last weekend, Spinn’s dancers Emilia Wärff and Annika Vestel came home from a dance congress in Bremen organized by tanzbar_bremen.

The congress lasted five days with invited guests from different countries. Five days of experiencing and learning from each other and exchange of working methods around various topics of inclusive stage and cultural work. This took place in working groups, discussion forums and in workshops, as well as through practical examples and lectures. How exciting doesn’t that sound?!

On Friday 1 December, a hybrid meeting – “meet and greet” – was also held, where outsiders got an insight into the groups’ work and conversations were held with the artists.

tanzbar_bremen
tanzbar_bremen is a team of dancers, choreographers and producers. The focus of the work is the promotion of art and culture through professional collaboration of inclusive teams. Together, the participants develop and present dance productions for the stage or public space as well as formats for entertainment, workshops and festivals and develop educational programs. Tanzbar_bremen was created in 2003 as a project for steptext dance projects and has been working as a non-profit association with many national and international partners since 2009.

Thank you Reykjavík and Ísafjörður!

Yesterday was the last show on our Iceland tour and we can clearly state that this trip was a success! After a total of seven performances and one workshop, it’s time for the team to pack up and head home after two weeks on tour.

Reykjavík Dance Festival lasted five days and opened with a sparkling show from the group Little Sister at Iðnó, a cultural center where there was also a mingling party in the evenings. In addition to lots of dance performances, the festival included talks and opportunities to meet visitors and participants. We are also so happy that both the choreographer Lára Stefánsdóttir and the composer Högni Egilsson had the opportunity to participate in a conversation between our two performances on Thursday. It was the first time that the dancers and the team met them both because the rehearsals for Hannah Felicia< /em> largely happened digitally. Thanks to the festival’s organizers and everyone who was involved in coordinating this lovely festival!

On Monday, the tour crew and team hit the Icelandic roads to the northwestern community of Ísafjörður. It is so incredibly beautiful by a fjord surrounded by high mountain peaks. Here Hannah Felicia was shown at the Edinborgarhúsið with a daytime performance for students and a public performance in the evening. Then there was a victory toast and a big cheer for the team for the last performance of the tour. There was also a toast to Veera Suvalo Grimberg and Klas Grimberg who are celebrating 25 years of marriage. Congratulations to you! Thank you Edinborgarhúsið and Ísafjörður for embracing us well!

Now the team can sit back on the plane home and conclude that we did this well! Goodbye Iceland and goodbye!

Thank you Akureyri!

After three wonderful days and three fantastic performances at the Menningarhúsið Hof in Akureyri, we will now continue on this tour and participate with two performances during the Reykjavík Dance Festival .

We have received an incredibly nice response in Akureyri and met such a nice audience who were very curious about Spinn and who showed appreciation for Hannah Felicia. “Hannah and Felicia are stars, Spinn must come here every year!” said one member of the audience after Monday night’s performance. On Tuesday, Hannah Felicia was first shown to school classes aged 13-14 and in the second performance there were high school students from the theater line and students from special schools. After the second performance, there was a spontaneous talk with the theater students. The students asked questions to the dancers and choreographer Lára Stefánsdóttir who was also present in Akureyri. It was a very nice meeting and end of the stay. Thank you Akureyri for this time!

Now we look forward to the Reykjavik Dance Festival at 17.00 & 19.00 at Tjarnarbíó Theater! Between the performances there will be an artist talk with Lára, Veera and Högni Egilsson. There are still a few single tickets left for tonight’s shows.

Book tickets for the performances at 17.00 & 19.00 here!

See you there!

Fall holiday activities!

What a Gothenburg premiere it was at the Folkteatern last Saturday! Two sold out performances by Hannah Felicia and soon a tour awaits! But more about that in the next news post. Now we want to draw attention to two perfect autumn holiday activities that are suitable for the whole family.

Tomorrow, our family show Miramos plays at Blå Stället in Angered and is also free. The show starts at 12:30 and we recommend that you arrive well in advance as no advance booking is required. The performance features Ida Häggström, Hannah Karlsson, Annika Vestel and Emilia Wärff.
Read more about the event at Blå Stället here.

Are you possibly in the vicinity of Kortedala tomorrow? Then you can come by Kortedala library and participate in the workshop Dansa en bok! The target group for this workshop is 4-7 years old and this activity is also free and does not require advance registration. The workshop starts at 10:00 and lasts about 45 minutes.
Read more about the event at Kortedala library here.

You actually have the opportunity to take part in both activities and make tomorrow a real culture day! Or we’ll see you there at one of the places. It goes very well with that. Hope to see you in Angered and Kortedala tomorrow!
