Salamander
Salamander is an ongoing community performance project created by internationally recognized choreographer and professor Petra Küppers, a project that she describes like this:
”We use underwater photography, dry performance workshops, creative writing, clay work and video to go under, to find our disabled beauty emerging from the deep, the wild aesthetic of water, deforming ourselves through sleek unhinged control. Since May 2013, disabled people and their allies from around the world have climbed into pools and oceans with us, and we float together, enjoying complicated freedom, companionship and adventure. And we give ourselves to the pressures the waters exert on us.”
During 2014, Petra Küppers was artist in residence at Dansbyrån through KID, Konstnärsnämndens Internationella Dansresidensprogram in Gothenburg. August 4-9 she developed the project Salamander along with Danskompaniet Spinn, and on Saturday August 9, there was a public performance at Lilla Amundöns Handikappsbad, where also the audience was welcome to participate and to experience the piece, either from land or in the water.
Petra Küppers (Germany/USA) is a professor at the University of Michigan and a disability culture activist based in a thorough and practical research, specifically in community art and performance. Through her company, The Olimpia, she creates projects exploring and challenging art in relation to disabilities, activism and eroticism. Petra has published a large number of books and has worked all over the world.

Salamander took place in Gothenburg on August 4-9 2014 as a part choreographer Petra Küppers residency at Dansbyrån through KID, Konstnärsnämndens Internationella Dansresidensprogram in Gothenburg.
