Around Lucia, several new characters visited the Spinn studio and enriched Danskompaniet Spinn ensemble.
Last week Spinn’s dancers and artistic director participated in a three-day maskworkshop led by Soile Mäkelä from Teatteri Metamorfoosi.
Soile and Veera met each other in Helsinki this summer at a clown workshop held by Soile. They started to talk about the mask theatre performance Gård av Träd (2017) of Spinn and how they still have those six Poppius-masks they ordered from Soiles company Teatteri Metamorfoosi back then. They came to the conclusion that it’s time to bring the masks alive again and organize a workshop in Gothenburg!
And last week it finally happend. The masks where liberated from their suitcase with six members of Spinn ensemble and staff. During the workshop Spinns dancers learned basic techniques required in mask acting, improvised and allowed new characters to emerge. They delved into the principles of mask work, letting the masks inspire new body language and movements. This work will culminate in another version of Spinn’s concept SpinnOut, which can now also be performed with Poppius masks.
Soile’s visit to Sweden has been made possible through funding from the Cultural Foundation for Sweden and Finland.
